Mr. Yibin Chu oversees Citi’s corporate citizenship efforts across 16 markets in the Asia Pacific region, including Citi Foundation grant investments, charitable contributions, employee volunteerism, corporate sustainability and disaster response. He also develops and manages key regional investments, specially in the areas of youth economic opportunities and financial inclusion.

A specialist in economic development and financial inclusion, Yibin has extensive experience spanning public, non-profit and private sectors, including fieldwork in over 20 countries across Asia Pacific, Africa, North America and the Caribbean.

Prior to joining Citi in 2013, Yibin worked at The SEEP Network, a global network of microfinance and microenterprise development organizations based in Washington DC, USA for five years. He managed the practices of Financial Services and Enterprise Development and provided technical assistance to organizations around the world. This included managing a USD 8-million global urban value chain development program supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented in Kenya, Jamaica, Indonesia and India, and the initiative on Business Planning for Sustainability and Scale-Up, which partnered with leading social enterprises in the world to develop innovative business models targeting marginalized communities. He also led the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project on international promotion of the Minimum Economic Recovery Standards, building Steering Committee and strategic partnerships with UN agencies and international NGOs, developing a training and certification program, as well as promoting quality and accountability among humanitarian and economic practitioners.

A Chinese national, Yibin also worked with the Policy Studies Office of Zhejiang Provincial Government, China on policy designs concerning economic growth of the province. When he was a sophomore at age 20, Yibin led a 45-student team to investigate migrant workers’ social security situation and organized a campaign across 7 cities in Zhejiang Province. The activities were covered by 50 key national and regional media. His final report generated from interviews with over 1000 migrant workers were published by major media and cited by governments as policy reference.

Yibin holds a Master’s degree in International Development and Nonprofit Management from the Johns Hopkins University, USA (under academic advisor Prof. Lester M. Salamon, a leading global expert on the non-profit sector and the tools of government). He received a bachelor degree in Public Management from Zhejiang Gongshang University, China with highest honors.
