Vikram Widge is the global head of Climate Finance and Policy at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and the largest development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets.

He leads IFC’s external engagement on climate finance, and is an accomplished manager with extensive practice in innovation and deployment of products to mobilize private capital for climate-smart development. Vikram has demonstrated global leadership, delivering several award-winning, first-of-their-kind products linked to debt capital markets, results-based finance, and sustainable development including the Forests Bond, the Pilot Auction Facility, and the Carbon Delivery Guarantee.

Vikram also oversees IFC's work on green bond standards, carbon pricing, climate risk and adaptation, climate-related metrics, and support to developing country governments to help create market opportunities for low-carbon, resilient development including production of a series of seminal reports on Climate Investment Opportunities. He is also a frequent moderator and speaker on topics of climate finance, carbon pricing and markets, and mobilizing private capital.

After working in the private sector for 10 years, Vikram joined IFC in 1994 and was a pioneer in supporting and financing clean technologies such as renewable power, waste-to-energy, fuel cells and electric vehicles. He also structured and managed an off-grid solar PV fund for six years in the late 1990s. Vikram has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (1982) and a master’s degree in resource economics from the University of Maryland (1986), where he was a research scholar and graduate fellow.
